41pounds.org

One of the things I hate the most is junk-mail. And I don’t mean the stuff in your email box. But the tons of advertisements, credit card applications, CATALOGS (for stuff I couldn’t care less about), and other junk mail that I receive in my real mailbox.

Now, I’m not a full-fledged tree hugger by any means – I waste too much, purchase too much, don’t recycle as much as I’d like to, and I don’t consider the environment enough in my daily life.

But I am committed to getting better about that. And a great way I’ve seen to do something simple about it is 41pounds.org.

It’s a website where you can sign up for this company to go through and help you stop receiving junk mail. Here is a blurb from their site:

41pounds.org stops your junk mail and catalogs — protecting the environment. Junk mail wastes an incredible amount of natural resources and contributes to global warming. Our nonprofit service covers your entire household for five years, saving…
Time — No credit card offers to shred or unwanted catalogs.
Trees — Keep 100+ million trees in forests, cooling the planet.
Water — Protect 28 billion gallons of clean water.
Climate — Junk mail produces more C02 than 2.8 million cars.
Planet — We donate to your favorite charity when you sign up.

I think it’s a great idea! I’m gonna check it out and will get back about if it really works or not. I am naturally skeptical of things like this, but we’ll give it a shot.
